Benefits of Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga Class
Yogi Bhajan once said that the purpose of Kundalini Yoga is transformation. This is something I experience repeatedly with the Yoga of Consciousness. It’s also my core intention in every class I teach — to guide you through your personal transformation.
The structure of a Kundalini Yoga class is as follows:
Warm-Up-Exercises
Warming up before Kundalini Yoga prepares your body and mind for practice. It increases flexibility, stimulates circulation, and loosens muscles, reducing the risk of injury. Warm-ups also activate the glandular and nervous systems, creating a balanced foundation for deeper kriyas and meditations. The focus is on gently awakening energy flow, aligning the spine, and calming the mind for a more effective and fulfilling yoga session.

Opening Mantra
Before starting the Kriya of the day, we tune in with the Adi Mantra: Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo. This mantra means, 'I bow to the divine wisdom, to the divine teacher within.' Chanting the Adi Mantra helps you align with your inner wisdom and connect to the universal divine flow, setting a powerful tone for your practice. It is an essential step in Kundalini Yoga that opens the space for spiritual growth and deep connection.

Kriya
The word kriya translates to 'action.' In Kundalini Yoga, a kriya is a sequence of specific postures, breathing techniques, and sounds designed to achieve a particular outcome. Each kriya has a unique effect, but all work holistically, addressing every level of your being. Practicing kriyas stimulates the glandular system, strengthens the nervous system, increases lung capacity, and purifies the blood. Additionally, kriyas help balance the mind and emotions, enhancing self-control and inner harmony.

Deep Relaxation
Deep relaxation, or Savasana, is a vital part of any yoga class. During this phase, the activated energies from your practice are integrated, allowing them to unfold fully in your body and mind. This state of rest promotes healing, balance, and a deeper connection with your inner self.

Meditation
In meditation, we combine mantras — sacred sounds — and specific breathing techniques to focus the mind and guide energy flow. Each meditation serves a purpose, such as promoting relaxation, enhancing intuition, or fostering clarity. It supports balancing emotions, clearing mental blocks, and deepening inner sensitivity.

Closing
We close each Kundalini Yoga class by chanting the mantra Sat Nam, meaning 'Truth is my identity' or 'I am truth.' This mantra seals the energy of the practice, aligns us with authenticity, and fosters peace and awareness to carry into daily life.
